At Hyloca, we handcraft custom wooden tables. Because our tables are completely personalized, we work closely with our clients to design a table that fits their style, needs, and space.

We understand that your table will be a focal point in your kitchen or dining room for years to come, so your opinion matters. We work with you throughout the design process, letting you make all the important decisions. You choose every aspect of the design, and we build it, bringing your vision to life.

When you begin designing your table, you should consider certain customization options, including: base type, size, finish/color, distress level, and whether or not to add a leaf.

Today, tout-reparer.fr offers you its guide: How to create your own custom table. To help you with the decision-making process, here are some questions to ask yourself when planning your custom table:

Should you build a custom table on a pedestal or four legs? The first thing you’ll need to determine is the type of base you want for your table. Do you prefer a pedestal base or are you looking for a traditional 4-legged table?

If you know you want your table to have legs, there are a few different options. Standard thick square legs are 3.5″ x 3.5″ and can be upgraded to 4.5″ or 5.5″ legs. If you’re interested in a bold look, consider larger legs for a smaller table. For tables over 7 feet, larger legs are required for a proportional look. If you’d like your table to be more elegant, we can manufacture turned, tapered, or claw-shaped legs.

If you’re interested in a pedestal, you can choose from many different types. Some of our most popular pedestals include the belly, single post, double post, and X. We also offer a variety of other pedestals, which you can find here. The size of the pedestal depends on the size of your table and your personal preferences. If you’re interested in something a little more unique, we can also build a custom table leg.

Building a standard or oversized table? Since our tables are completely custom-made, we can make them in any size, down to the last inch. The easiest way to determine the right size table for your space is to lay it out using tape, blankets, cardboard, or whatever you can find. Make sure you give yourself about 2.5 feet of space around the table and add a few chairs. This will give you an idea of the size that works for your space and how many guests you can comfortably seat. To help you decide which size to try in your space, here are the most common table sizes:42×60 – Seats 6 (standard size)

42×72 – Seats 6-8 people

42×84 – Seats 8

42×96 – Seats 8-10

  • 42×108 – Seats 10
  • 42×120 – Seats 10-12
  • Formal or casual look?
  • When deciding on the finish and color of your table, it’s important to consider the style you’re going for. Are you looking for a formal table or something more casual? Believe it or not, this can have an impact on the color you choose. A rich color with consistent black shading around the edges creates a more formal look and adds more depth and detail to the table. On the other hand, a lighter color with faded, irregular black shading creates a more casual look.
  • Remember that your table will be the focal point of the room. To make it stand out, we recommend choosing a color darker or lighter than the flooring.
  • If you’re unsure of the finish/color you’re looking for, we recommend choosing from our previous work. Browse our custom table galleries to find inspiration for your own table. If you see something you like, even if it’s a different design than what you had in mind, we can replicate the color. Using dyes, glazes, overcoats, and stains, we can create most colors, so if you like the look of a table that isn’t one we’ve built, feel free to send us photos, and we’ll do our best to replicate the color.

Having a table with a distressed finish? Do you want your table to look “clean” and new, or do you want it to look like it’s been used many times? You can choose the degree of wear based on how worn you want your table to look. At Hyloca, we use a wear scale, with 1 being no wear and 10 being very worn.

Building a table with extensions?

It’s up to you to decide if you think a leaf is necessary for your table. Consider how you plan to use the table. Do you want to be able to accommodate more guests fairly often? Leaves are a good option if you plan to host a number of dinner parties, as they allow you to comfortably seat more people without taking up a lot of space all the time.

Our leaves attach to the ends, rather than lowering, so the table doesn’t look like it’s missing something when not in use. If you’d like to add leaves to your table, we offer three different options:

Standard – 12 inches

Medium – 18 inches – one medium leaf seats one additional person, while two medium leaves seat two additional people.

Large – 24 inches – one large leaf adds 20 inches to the table, enough to seat two additional people, and two large leaves seat four additional people.
